iPhone 15 Pro models will offer faster transfer rates with USB Type-C

To comply with a law enacted by the European Union, Apple has declared that it will upgrade the iPhone to USB Type-C. This change is anticipated to first appear in the new iPhone 15 lineup, which is scheduled to debut in 2023. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the USB Type-C port will replace the Lightning port on the iPhone 15 series, potentially enhancing data transfer rates significantly. However, only the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Ultra may support wired high-speed USB Type-C connections.

In a series of tweets, Kuo predicted that both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus would feature USB 2.0 technology. These alleged Apple smartphones should maintain the 480Mbps transfer speeds offered by current Lightning ports. Only the Pro versions of the models are anticipated to have faster-wired data transfer rates.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to support “at least USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3.” Thunderbolt 3 could transfer data at up to 40Gbps, but USB 3.2 technology can only do so at 20Gbps. Kuo claims that this might increase demand for high-speed transfer chips. It should be noted that the majority of Android smartphones only currently support USB 2.0 technology.

According to reports, the EU has compelled Apple to use USB Type-C technology. The Cupertino company is expected to complete updating the iPhones in 2019, and the law is expected to go into effect in 2024. It already uses USB Type-C for its iPad models, Mac operating systems, and other accessories.

Additionally, Kuo claims in a recent report that solid-state buttons will replace the physical volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro models. It is anticipated that these models will have internal left and right Apple Taptic Engines, which will use haptic feedback to simulate the actual clicking of buttons. He also anticipates the release of the iPhone 15 lineup in the second half of 2019.
