At the fall event, Apple will undoubtedly unveil the new iPhones, as it does every year. Even though that is still a few months away, now is a good time for leaks and rumors to influence the design of the upcoming iPhone. Online images of the iPhone 14 prototype have been making the rounds for the past few weeks. A new one gives a closer look at one of the four models, which were all presented as dummies last week. The dual punch-hole design of the mock-up, which appears to be an iPhone 14 Pro Max, is confirmed.
Given that the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera bump is likely the biggest of the four, the pictures shared by Twitter user @duanrui1205 seem to be taken with that model. And as if that weren’t enough proof, the dual punch-hole pattern on the dummy’s front acts as a kind of affirmation that this is how the iPhone 14 Pro Max would look.
Comparison of the iPhone 14 Pro and non-Pro
According to several industry insiders and analysts, including Mark Gurman of Bloomberg and Ming-Chi Kuo, there will be cosmetic differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models. The largest of them all might be the cutout design on the display. The iPhone 14 Pro models will combine a punch-hole and a pill-shaped cavity, while the non-Pro models will maintain their signature notch.
Given that the TrueDepth camera and the Face ID system have been hampered by the notch design on the iPhone for more than three generations, it is time for Apple to introduce a new workaround. The upcoming iPhone would have a new look thanks to the “pill and hole” design, which would allow Apple to fit the camera and the Face ID components while maintaining functionality.
From punch-hole to nothing?
Experts believe that the new “pill and hole” design could be the start of the transition to under-display technology. This might be the first step in putting Apple’s under-screen technology, for which the company has filed numerous patent applications. Do not, however, hold out hope to see the hardware or under-display camera any time soon.
Going from biggest differences to bigger differences, it is most likely that the iPhone 14 Pro Max (and iPhone 14) will introduce an exclusive telephoto camera on the back. Widening the gap between Pro and regular iPhones, Pro models may soon feature rear cameras with 48-megapixel sensors for the first time. It is anticipated that the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro will use the A16 chipset, while the other two models may use the A15 Bionic.
