Last week, Apple announced the new iPadOS 16 at the WWDC 2022 event, raising hopes for a new iPad model to be announced in September or October. However, according to analyst Ross Young, Apple is planning an iPad Pro M2 for early next year, implying that there may not be a new model this year after all. Mark Gurman, on the other hand, has now revealed that Apple may still launch an iPad Pro M2 this year.
M2 chipset, wireless charging, and improved cameras on the iPad Pro 2022
Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg journalist, recently revealed in his newsletter that Apple may launch an updated iPad Pro model this year. He claimed that the new multitasking features were missing after updating the 2020 iPad Pro to the latest iPadOS 16.
“It depends on how soon is defined. Yes, if September or October is approaching. And it’s something I’m looking forward to. My 2020 iPad Pro with an A12Z is showing its age (it’s amazing how that works) and doesn’t support the latest multitasking features. Indeed, I’ve installed iPadOS 16 on my iPad Pro and can’t seem to find anything new. Expect M2 chips, wireless charging, and camera system upgrades in the next iPad Pro.”
According to Gurman, Apple is expected to launch the iPad Pro M2 in September or October of this year. Apple M2 chips, which power the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, could be used in the new iPad. It is also expected to include wireless charging and camera improvements.
In terms of cameras, Apple may do something, as the iPad Pro’s camera hasn’t been upgraded since 2020. Wireless charging is a welcome addition, as many people would like to own an iPad that supports it now that iPhones, Airpods, and the Apple Watch can all be charged wirelessly.
Even though an iPad Pro M2 is expected this year, the rumoured miniLED technology may not be included in the 11-inch model. Next year, it may only be available in a 14.1-inch model. However, it is still unclear whether Apple will only launch the 11-inch iPad or will also launch a 14-inch iPad.
