Apple iPad Air 2022 Powered by M1 chipset launched

The iPad Air (2022) and the much-anticipated iPhone SE (2022) were both unveiled at a virtual Apple event on Tuesday (March 8). The new iPad Air is powered by Apple’s M1 processor, which is also found in iPad Pro models and Mac computers. The iPad Air (2022) also comes with an upgraded front-facing camera that supports Center Stage, a software feature that was first introduced on the iPad Pro and iPad mini last year. On the other hand, the fifth-generation iPad Air retains the same design as the previous model, which was released in 2020.

In India, the iPad Air (2022) Wi-Fi-only 64GB storage variant will cost Rs. 54,900, while the Wi-Fi + cellular 64GB storage variant will cost Rs. 68,900. The new iPad Air will also be available in 256GB Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + cellular models, both of which will be priced separately.

The iPad Air (2022) will be available in 29 countries, including the United States, beginning March 18. It will be available in a variety of colours, including Blue, Space Grey, Starlight, Pink, and Purple. Pre-orders for the new model will begin in India and other early markets on Friday, March 11.

In the United States, the iPad Air (2022) will be released with a starting price of $599. (roughly Rs. 46,100). This is the same iPad Air model as before.

The iPad Air (2020) was released in 2020, with prices starting at Rs. 54,900 for the Wi-Fi-only 64GB model. The 64GB iPad Air (2020) Wi-Fi + cellular model cost Rs. 66,900, while the 256GB iPad Air (2020) Wi-Fi + cellular model cost Rs. 80,900.

Specifications for the iPad Air (2022)

The iPad Air (2022) has iOS 15 installed. It has the same 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2360×1640 pixels as the 2020 model. The display has a maximum brightness of 500 nits and is compatible with both P3 wide-color gamut and True Tone white balance. The display also has an anti-reflective coating. On the new iPad Air, Touch ID is also built into the power/standby button. The iPad Air (2022) has 8GB RAM and an octa-core M1 processor.

The M1 chip is said to be 60 percent faster in terms of CPU performance and two times faster in terms of graphics performance than the previous iPad Air. For native artificial intelligence (AI) processing, Apple Neural Engine is also built into the in-house chip.

Apple has included a 12-megapixel wide-angle rear camera with an f/1.8 lens on the iPad Air (2022), which is identical to the previous model. Among the camera’s features are autofocus with Focus Pixels, Panorama (up to 63-megapixel), Smart HDR 3, Photo geotagging, Auto image stabilization, and Burst mode. It can also record 4K videos at 24, 25, 30, or 60 frames per second. The camera also supports slow-motion video in 1080p at 120fps or 240fps.

The new iPad Air also has a 12-megapixel Ultra Wide front camera with machine learning-powered Center Stage, which allows users to adjust the camera view when using FaceTime and other apps. The camera comes with an f/2.4 lens with a 122-degree field of view.

The iPad Air (2022) comes in 64GB or 256GB storage options. Connectivity options include 5G (optional), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5, GPS/ A-GPS (in cellular version only), and a USB Type-C connector. Among the sensors onboard are an ambient light sensor, a barometer, and a three-axis accelerometer.

On the new iPad Air, Apple has added support for the Apple Pencil (2nd generation), allowing users to sketch on the go. Magic Keyboard is also supported, which provides a notebook-like computing experience with its floating design and built-in trackpad on the detachable keyboard.

In terms of battery life, Apple claims that the iPad Air (2022) has an “all-day battery life.” The laptop comes with a 28.6Wh lithium-polymer battery that can last up to 10 hours of Wi-Fi Web browsing or video playback. The Wi-Fi + Cellular variant, on the other hand, is said to provide up to nine hours of Web browsing on a single charge.

The new iPad Air’s built-in battery supports fast charging, and a 20W USB-C power adapter is included in the retail box.
