The Play Something and Fast Laughs features will be added to Netflix’s Android app in a future update. The first, a randomized shuffle play feature, was first seen in May and was added to the TV app in April. Fast Laughs is similar to TikTok in that it displays random small comic clips in rapid succession. This was first seen in March for the iOS app. In an auto-playing feed, Fast Laughs shows a full-screen vertical video.
The Netflix Play Something update is currently only available for Android users. In the coming months, the video-streaming platform says it will first test this feature on iOS. The new-for-Android Fast Laughs feature, on the other hand, has been available on iOS devices since March.
After selecting a profile, the user can access Netflix’s Play Something feature via a new button on the home screen. It can be found in the bottom right corner, just above the menu bar. The Play Something button is hovering over the home screen’s content. It’s essentially a shuffle play option that shows a movie or TV show Netflix thinks a user might enjoy.
The shuffle play feature, on the other hand, is not random, as Netflix only plays content based on users’ preferences and previous viewing habits. The Play Something feature would allow users to continue watching content that they had started but not finished, that they had added to their watch list, or that Netflix’s algorithm had recommended to them.
Netflix has also added a Fast Laughs feature to its mobile apps, which is similar to TikTok. In an auto-playing feed, this feature displays random small funny clips in full-screen vertical format. Along with Home, Coming Soon, and Downloads, Fast Laughs has its own dedicated menu in the bottom bar. The feature was first introduced in March for the iOS app, and the clips featured here will come from a large library of comedy TV shows, films, and stand-ups.
