Elon Musk’s SpaceX could launch its Starlink broadband service in India as early as December of next year. Indian users will have access to high-speed data with the launch of this broadband service. The number of pre-bookings in India has surpassed 5000, according to Starlink Country Director Sanjay Bhargava, and the company is working to expand its broadband services to rural areas.
According to Sanjay Bhargava, we plan to activate 2,00,000 terminals in India by December 2022. If we don’t get government approval, the actual number could be much lower or even zero, but it’s very unlikely that we’ll go over 200,000.
The company will collect a deposit of $ 99 (roughly Rs 7,350) from each user during the beta stage, and users will receive data at a rate of 50 to 150 megabytes per second. At the same time, Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea will face stiff competition from Starlink’s broadband service.
The company stated in the pre-order note that the Starlink service is available in many countries and that if there are more pre-orders from India, it will be easier to get government approval. The Indian government’s approval process is quite complicated. If we do not receive PAN India approval for our services, we will attempt to obtain approval for the pilot project.
We expect to get Indian government approval for a pilot program or a pan India project for our services in the next few months, according to the Starlink note. The prices of Starlink kits have been affected due to a shortage of liquid oxygen and semiconductors.
