Xiaomi announced on Monday that the Mi TV Webcam will be available in India on Thursday, June 24. The new device will be sold as an add-on for smart TVs, allowing them to make full-HD video calls. Xiaomi has revealed that the Mi TV Webcam will feature 3D noise reduction and far-field microphones. Because of the ongoing coronavirus-induced pandemic, people are largely staying indoors, necessitating the use of a webcam for smart TVs. OnePlus, for example, has recently introduced proprietary webcam modules for its smart TVs.
Xiaomi announced the Mi TV Webcam’s launch date in a tweet from its Mi TV India account. According to the company, the external unit will support full-HD video calls via Google Duo.
Xiaomi also created a dedicated microsite for the launch, which features the Mi TV Webcam, which includes dual far-field microphones and a physical privacy shutter. The device also includes a grip for mounting on the television.

Although Xiaomi did not provide any additional information about the Mi TV Webcam, a tipster (@heyitsyogesh) tweeted that the device will be nearly identical to the OnePlus webcam that was released earlier this month alongside the OnePlus U1S TV. Both webcams were developed by Seevo, according to the tipster, with the only difference being the distinct branding on the privacy shutter.
The Mi TV Webcam is also rumored to be priced at Rs. 2,500. To put things in perspective, the OnePlus TV webcam was launched at Rs. 2,499.
It’s unclear whether the Mi TV Webcam will be limited to Xiaomi’s Mi TV lineup or will work with other smart TVs as well. On the other hand, the tipster claims that the webcam has a USB Type-C port for connectivity.
