iPad Mini 6th Gen Will Feature USB-C Port, Thinner Bezels, and Touch ID Power Button

Apple should migrate its entire line of tablets to the new easily recognizable visual identity, offering a screen with symmetrical edges and rounded corners, a square body, and Touch ID on cheaper models, according to rumors about a future iPad mini with a renewed design that has been circulating on the internet for a few months.

Now, leaker Jon Prosser, who is known for hitting his leaks, particularly those involving product design, has revealed renderings based on incoming files that detail the design of the next iPad mini.

Unlike the current 5th generation model, which has an old design with thick edges at the top and bottom of the screen, as well as front Touch ID, the new iPad mini will stick to the square design that Apple has used on all of its devices. The iPhone 12 lineup includes the new iPad Air, a new iMac with the M1 chip due out in 2021, and future MacBook models.

According to Prosser, the next iPad mini will have dimensions of 206.3 x 137.8 x 6.1 mm, which means it will be nearly identical in height and width to the current model (the new model will be slightly larger in both dimensions) but will have the same thickness of 6.1 mm.

Another image shows the differences in size between the iPad Air 4 and the upcoming iPad mini 6. Although the smaller model’s edges appear to be thinner, there’s no way of knowing what the display size will be, though it’s possible Apple will stick with an 8-inch display.

Below, we can see the fingerprint sensor, Touch ID, in greater detail, in the same position, and with the same highlighted format as on the iPad Air 4, which is to be expected given Apple’s decision to limit Face ID to iPad Pro models.

We’ve seen rumors of a new short-sized Apple Pencil circulating the internet for a few months now, implying that Apple should release a more compact version so iPad mini 6 users can take advantage of the accessory’s unique features and get it magnetized on the side.

We’re not sure if Apple should include other accessories, such as the Magic Keyboard, which connects to the iPad Pro and iPad Air and allows you to use the tablet as a notebook, complete with a keyboard and trackpad. Because typing in such a small space, with a width of only 206.3 mm, would be much more difficult due to the extremely compact keys, the iPad mini’s size would be the main issue.

According to rumors, the new iPad mini would be powered by the Apple A14 Bionic processor, the same chipset found in the iPad Air 4th generation and iPhone line models, and would come in only three colors: black, white, and gold, eschewing the wide range of iPad Air color variations.

Apple is also expected to support 5G variants, with sales beginning later this year, possibly at Apple’s September event.
