Apple overtook Samsung in terms of smartphone production during Q4 2020

Apple overtook Samsung in terms of smartphone production during the fourth quarter of 2020, all thanks to the new iPhone 12.

According to the TrendForce.com website, Apple would have gained market leadership, ousting Samsung and becoming the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Analyzing the production data of the two brands during the last 3 months of 2020, there is a gap of about 10 million in favor of the Cupertino company.

Apple marks 77.6 million smartphones produced during Q4 2020, while Samsung stops at “only” 67 million units. The American brand marks an increase of 85% compared to the previous three months (Q3), demonstrating the enormous impact caused by the launch of the iPhone 12, the new models contributed to 90% of production, as much as 69.8 million.

On balance, Apple does not seem to have been particularly affected by the global crisis that affected 2020, at least in terms of production and market share. The bitten apple company managed to overcome the data collected in 2019, the new line-up played a fundamental role in reaching the goal.

It remains essential to wait a few more months to know the implications of the story, TrendForce believes that Samsung will recover the first position in the course of 2021, returning to the top as the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world.
