Highlights

  • LG Rollable, the first smartphone with a stretch screen
  • Rollable should have a 7.4-inch stretch display
  • LG Rollable Snapdragon 888 processor from Qualcomm

The years 2019 and 2020 were key milestones for the smartphone market from several angles. The most important innovation is undoubtedly the arrival of the most modern 5G connectivity, but in a tight hinge for 5G there are also foldable or other flexible displays. These types of displays have only begun to appear in a handful of devices, but over time, other manufacturers have begun to lean towards using this technology. However, most manufacturers reach for their own, mostly unique solution for using a flexible display. The best known are probably the folding smartphones themselves, but the latest addition from LG could completely change this category of quite interesting devices.

LG Rollable

The scroll screen smartphone from LG, South Korea, has been talked about for several weeks since the company’s patents were published. However, patent registration does not necessarily mean a certain market entry, as a large part of patents will remain only on paper. However, the latest information published by leaker @cozyplanes suggests that this will not be the case with the rolling or sliding smartphone from LG.

The above-mentioned leaker also published more details about the device on his profile on the social network Twitter, which we probably could see soon. Appliances LG rollable was a matter of fact according to internal databases, intranet registered name of one of the South Korean operators. The leaked database thus not only confirms the development of this smartphone but also its possible early arrival on the market at the end of this year.

The LG Rollable should have a 7.4-inch stretch display (sideways), with a resolution of 2,428 x 1,080 pixels (20: 9), 2,428 x 1,366 pixels (16: 9) for video mode, and 2,428 x 1,600 pixels for 3: 2 productivity mode. The display itself should be stretched on both sides independently of the user’s needs by means of a fixed mechanism. The manufacturer is also reportedly working on a special flexible packaging that would expand/retract together with the device.

The unique scrollable device from LG should hide the latest Snapdragon 888 processor from Qualcomm, which is supposed to second up to 16 GB of RAM. As for the battery, we expect a battery with a capacity of 4,200 mAh, which will not be much for such a powerful and large device, but we must take into account that it will be an extremely expensive device with a single goal – to pack maximum mobile power in the user’s pocket as compactly as possible.
