The new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will enjoy important changes; by the end of the year, we know that Apple will present the new product line-up. According to the latest rumors published by DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultans), new updates are emerging about the displays of 2020 apple phones.

The top of the range family will enjoy a huge 6.68-inch OLED panel provided only by Samsung Display. The screen will have a resolution of 2778 × 1284 pixels with 458 PPI. The difference compared to the previous generation lies in the Y-OCTA technology, which allows you to model the touchscreen circuits on the OLED panel without creating an additional separate panel, obtaining lower production costs and thinner displays.

As already reported by Prosser, the new display will be a Super Retina XDR; this means that the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be able to reproduce over 1 billion colors. This functionality is currently only available on OP8 Pro and Oppo Find X2 Pro. DSCC also believes that Apple will follow its “XDR” brand guidelines by increasing the maximum brightness level.

The smaller device of the ” Pro ” family will have a 6.1-inch OLED screen supplied by Samsung but without Y-OCTA technology, therefore with a separate layer for the touch circuits. Support for 10-bit color depth and high maximum brightness like that of the big brother is expected. The resolution will be 2532 × 1170 pixels and, like the Pro Max variant, will have a 120 Hz refresh rate.

DSCC believes that the Cupertino company does not want to adopt the same LTPO technology that Samsung wants to introduce on its Galaxy Note 20+; this will imply that it may have abnormal battery consumption. We’ll see.

iPhone 11 will split: Apple will probably announce iPhone 12 and 12 Max. The “Max” model will boast a 6.1-inch OLED display made by BOE and LG Display; the latter will handle most initial orders for the device. The product will have an additional layer of circuits, therefore it too will not enjoy Y-OCTA. The resolution and PPIs should be the same as those of the iPhone 12 Pro.

To date, Tim Cook’s company has often been criticized for the low resolutions of the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 products. With the OLED, this regrettable criticism seems to be about to end.

The smallest iPhone in the family will enjoy a 5.4-inch “just” display. DSCC says it will be provided by Samsung, while leaker Jon Prosser and the mysterious LoveToDream have reason to believe that the supplier will be BOE. The features will be borrowed from the iPhone 12 Max, but the resolution will be 2340 × 1080 pixels. The only confusion about it circulates around the PPI, which according to different rumors should be 475, according to the other 458 like the other models.

Display supply chain consultants also felt that panel production was delayed for 6 weeks; this means that production should start in July instead of mid-June. It follows – according to DSCC – that the launch of the devices will take place in October, rather than in September.
