In addition to the Galaxy S20 trio, Samsung unveiled its second foldable screen phone. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is a 6.7-inch smartphone that can be folded in half to be more compact, like the Razr. The format is the same as the Motorola cell phone and the price too: both cost R $ 1,376 (Rs. 98,490) in the Indian market.

Only the similarities stop there. The Galaxy Z Flip has more powerful hardware, a bigger battery, and even a new screen technology. Instead of the plastic that covered the display of all the folders so far, Samsung created a flexible … glass screen.

A very clear answer for the Motorola Razr

Because of the similar format, the identical price. The same time of launch and the fact that the two companies are the market leaders in India. There is no way to compare the Samsung galaxy Z Flip with the Motorola Razr.

Both are the size of an ordinary smartphone when unfolded and a cell phone that fits in the pocket, when folded, which already reaches a large audience – women, who usually have pants with tiny pockets (when the pocket is real), may be among the possible stakeholders.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip & Rzar: A fundamental difference

But the fundamental difference between them is that, while Motorola moved on to the emotional and nostalgic aspect. Making everyone who had a V3 want the new Razr, Samsung decided to invest in a more utilitarian side. And it is interesting how the small details added together interfere a lot in the final result.

For starters, the Galaxy Z Flip screen is coated with Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG), or ultra-thin glass. The crease is still there in the hinge region, but the stiffer material on the screen feels sturdy. I don’t feel like I can ruin the display with the tip of my nail, like other folders (including the Galaxy Fold).

In addition, the Galaxy Z Flip is not only fully open or only fully closed. It can be fixed at any angle, like a notebook. This opens up possibilities: you can capture a long exposure photo or time-lapse without using a tripod, or even make a video call with your hands-free. Of course, you can divide applications into two halves of the screen (but, as the display is not so large, the utility is more limited than on the screens of the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X).

Samsung also gets the better of not compromising the hardware in favor of the design. The processor is a powerful Snapdragon 855 Plus, not an intermediate Snapdragon 710. The battery has an ok capacity of 3,300 mAh, not 2,510 mAh. And the Galaxy Z Flip still has a chip slot, unlike Razr, which requires the activation of an eSIM on your operator. Again: they have exactly the same price.

Now on the Samsung galaxy Z Flip

But, talking about the Galaxy Z Flip itself, it is clear that the product is aimed at those who are interested in design (and those who want to show off to friends too). After all, for the US $ 1,380 in the American market, it costs only twenty dollars less than the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which is far superior in all aspects, except for the fact that it does not double.

As a scalded cat is afraid of cold water, Samsung worried about the hinge: there is a system of “nylon fibers made by micro-height cutting technology to repel dirt and dust” (in other words, greater protection for the screen don’t crash like the first Galaxy Fold). According to Samsung, the mechanism can handle up to 200,000 uses.

And when it is closed, the Galaxy Z Flip shows the information on a 1.1-inch screen, such as date, time, battery status and notifications: if you touch an alert, the corresponding app opens as soon as you unfold your phone. It is also possible to take selfies with the dual rear camera even when the device is closed.

Wait

The Galaxy Z Flip will be sold in India from March 22 to everyone who is willing to spend R $ 1,376 (Rs. 98,490). It arrives last week, on February 14, in the United States and in South Korea, when we will discover more details of the device, for good and for bad – after all, the folding launched until now have always impressed at first sight, but they showed their flaws as soon as they left for the real world.
